The department of food technology is started in view of demand from food and allied industries of wastern Maharashtra. At present the department is financially supported by Shivaji University, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MFPI), University Grant Commission (UGC) and Department of Science and Technology (DST) of worth Rs. 1.5 Crores. In the course curriculum various subjects in like Fruits and Vegetable Processing Technology, Cereal and Bakery, Confectionery, Dairy, Legume and Oilseed Technology, Meat Poultry and Fish Processing Technology, Food Process Engineering etc. have been given special emphasis. Consultancy service is provided for new production development, analysis of samples and project proposals to start new business.

Mission

The Food Technology department seeks to meet the needs of society and the region by offering outstanding programs in food technology through quality education, innovative research, and community service, with a focus on food safety, nutrition, and sustainable food systems.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

 

PEO 1- To develop graduates with sound knowledge in the field of food engineering and technology by integrating engineering and basic sciences
PEO 2- To produce competent graduates who shall pursue careers in the field of food processing, quality control, product development and techno-marketing
PEO 3- To inculcate innovative ideas and project management skills in order to make them capable to grow as an entrepreneur
PEO 4- To prepare graduates who will apply the technical knowledge and know-how to solve the problems related to food processing and preservation for the benefit of the society

1. Domain Specific Engineering Knowledge: Apply principles from mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering to solve complex chemical engineering problems.
2. Problem Analysis Ability: Develop skills to analyse and solve problems encountered in chemical and allied industries and consultancy services.
3. Acquiring Skills to Design/Develop Solutions to Problems: Design and manage chemical processes and systems while considering current and emerging industrial practices.
4. Capacity to Investigate Complex Problems: Identify new research areas and utilize advanced research methods to analyse data and draw conclusions, aiming for innovative solutions in chemical engineering.
5. Modern Tool Usage: Select and apply modern engineering and IT tools, including modelling and prediction techniques, to complex engineering tasks.

Provide effective and effiicient knowledge of technology and free open source software (FOSS)through IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial Project.

To create the awareness of foreign language among students to meet global needs and look for oppetunities in multinational companies.

Provide platform to students to develop a new and innovative project which will improve local industry needs.
